At least 30 children and seven adults have died due to mysterious dengue-like viral fever in Uttar Pradesh stirring immense fear in the public and the local administration. Some districts in western Uttar Pradesh, including Mathura, Firozabad, and Mainpuri, have seen an increase in cases of 'viral fever,' prompting the government to declare a state of emergency.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the families of those who lost their members and assured them of help. The CM also visited the 100-bed district hospital at Firozabad where children showing symptoms of the disease are being treated.
"As of Thursday morning, the deaths due to viral fever in Mathura district have gone up to 14 from seven. Due to this, the villagers are in fear. We have set up temporary hospitals in the villages," said Dr Bhudev, who is the in-charge of the COVID control room.
In Koha village, over 50 families fled the village due to the spread of disease.
Meanwhile, Firozabad District Magistrate Chandra Vijay Singh denied that this was the third wave of the pandemic. “Due to heavy rains and waterlogging, dengue and malaria is the cause behind high fever among children,” he said. Health teams have tested the patients but they have all tested negative for Corona.
