Six dead as bus falls into Ringdi river in Meghalaya

Six people were killed and over 10 injured after a bus carrying at least 21 passengers fell in the Ringdi river in Meghalaya, police said. The night bus was travelling from Tura to Shillong when it fell into the Ringdi river in Nongchram on Wednesday midnight.

The accident took place at the Nongshram bridge which is the border between East Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills district. Four bodies have been fished out of the river while two are still said to be trapped inside the bus. Sixteen passengers have been rescued and taken to the nearby hospital, the police said.

The driver of the bus is believed to be among the dead. Some injured passengers have told locals that the bus was speeding when the accident happened.
