At least eleven people, including eight children, were killed and at least 18 injured severely after a four-storey residential building collapsed in Mumbai's Malad area due to heavy rains. The incident took place at 11:10 pm on Wednesday night at the New Collector Compound on Abdul Hamid road in the Malwani area.
After receiving the information, Mumbai civic body officials and fire brigades rushed to the spot and took up rescue operations. The BMC officials are evacuating residents from other buildings which are in dilapidated condition. Injured people were immediately shifted to BDBA Municipal General Hospital.
The house belonged to Mohammad Rafiq, who lost nine members of his family. Locals and cops have rescued 15 people, who were trapped under the debris.
